Roses, chocolate, teddy bears or a date is something that we all do on the 14th of February. We go all out to surprise our family, friends or lovers. but this day is not only for our family, friends or lovers, it is also for self love or selfcare. It is a day where we spoil ourselves despite what is happening around us.
We all know the backstory of this day, it came from valentine. He is someone who got beheaded on AD496 for disobeying the decree of Emperor Claudius II. He saw the injustice of this order and decided to go against it, he risked his life by helping young lovers to tie the knot. He was known as sympathetic, heroic and most importantly-romantic figure. Despite the gloomy history it made Valentine one of the most popular saint of England and France.
I don't usually celebrate valentines but this year I decided to do something different. I love my friends but sometimes I have a hard time showing it, I gifted my friend a rose and a chocolate, it is not that much but I hope that she'd like it. I also got to receive a flower and a chocolate from my friend. it is my first time so that made it more special. my family also ate outside and that what made my day, it is rare that we eat outside as a complete family since my parents have a different schedules but I appreciated that they took the time off.
When I was a child I thought that Valentine's Day are only celebrated with family, friends or lovers but as I grew up I realized that you can celebrate it with yourself. Love is everywhere and it has no forms or anything. For me maturing made me realize that you can not find the love you are craving for to someone if you cannot love yourself. Love always starts with you.
